We had a dear friend pass away abruptly two weeks ago. Her name is Katy Spors and we will miss her so much. Katy was one of the most delightful, positive and inspiring people we know, and it's so sad that we didn't spend more time getting to know her better.
Kris and I met Katy and Paul in Bloomington, Indiana when Kris was doing his doctorate there. Katy and Paul began investigating our church and attending our ward and shortly after their baptism they moved away. It wasn't until Kris and I moved to Michigan that we reconnected after spotting them in our new ward where there they were, seated on a side pew in the chapel. What a great surprise!
Over the past year and half we had them over to dinner on several occasions and for FHE. Katy filled in teaching the Sunbeam class for me several times in spite of the difficulties she had with mornings. Katy had epilepsy and most often her seizures occurred in the early mornings leaving her tired and spent for much of the day. Yet, this wonderful lady went about seldom complaining and often elevating others through her kind words and thoughtfulness. Every conversation with her felt natural and as if she was holding onto every word you said. She also had positive in sites to contribute and when you were done, you could truly say you had spoken with a friend.
We had the pleasure of having Katy and Paul over for Thanksgiving dinner last year (2009). It was a quiet Thanksgiving yet a special one in retrospect because it would be one of the last intimate moments with our friend. We captured Katy on the video camera expressing her gratitude for her family and for her husband who "help her so much." How beautiful. She also taught us how to make Caramel Hot Cocoa that evening, something we all enjoyed but especially Alyson and Kourtney. It was a sweet treat and a sweet recipe that will be one way we remember Katy by.
So, we say "Thank You" Katy for your friendship. Thank you for the warmth you have shared with our family. And to Paul, we hope that you will find peace in the coming months and know that we are here for you. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are there for you too.

To those of you who may know Paul, here's just a little reminder that today is his birthday. Hope you get the chance to wish him well for the coming year.
